Healthy Hot Chocolate Bombs

Hot chocolate bombs are all the rage so I decided to try making them. Of course, I had to make sure they were somewhat healthy so I used dark chocolate and raw cacao and eliminated additional sugar. I find the dark chocolate makes the drink sweet enough. If you find you want it sweeter, you can add agave, maple syrup, or honey to the finished drink.

This recipe makes the creamiest hot chocolate with no added sugar.

Ingredients

What You'll Need
  • Silicone Sphere Mold (I used large a 2.5 inch but you can use smaller)
  • Thermometer (important for keeping the chocolate at low temperature)
  • 300 g dark chocolate (at least 70%)
  • 1 Tbsp Raw Cacao per bomb, sifted through a fine sieve
  • 1 Tbsp Collagen Powder per bomb
  • 1 tsp Tumeric per bomb
  • Dash Cinnamon per bomb
  • Pinch Sea Salt per bomb
  • Dairy-free milk

Instructions

Temper the Chocolate
  1. Chop chocolate with a knife into small uniform pieces.
  2. Place in bowl and microwave for 30 seconds.
  3. Stir the chocolate.  It won't be melted but it's important to stir to keep the chocolate at a uniform temperature.
  4. Microwave again for 15 seconds and stir.  Use a thermometer to check the temperature of the chocolate.
  5. Continue to microwave/stir in 15-second intervals until most of the chocolate is melted and has reached a temperature of just under 90 degrees.  DO NOT go above 90 degrees.
Fill and Chill
  1. Fill each mold with a little bit of chocolate and use the back of a spoon to push up along the sides.
  2. Pop into the freezer for 5 or 10 minutes.
  3. Fill molds again with more chocolate and spread another layer up along the sides.  Ensure the edges and sides are thick enough to handle without breaking.
  4. Pop into the freezer again for 5 to 10 minutes
Finishing the Pops
  1. Remove the chocolate by gently pressing the spheres out of the molds.
  2. Warm a plate in the microwave.  Take a sphere and place the edge down on the plate until the edge is slightly melted.
  3. Fill the sphere with cacao, turmeric, cinnamon, and sea salt.
  4. Take another sphere and melt the edge on the warm plate and push the two spheres together to seal.
  5. Place in the fridge or freeze for a few minutes to set.
Making Hot Chocolate
  1. Warm 1 cup of dairy free milk (I use Oat Milk) and pour over the bomb.
  2. If you prefer a sweeter drink, add sweetner.  I found it was sweet enough when using the dark chocolate.
  3. Enjoy!

Notes:

This makes a VERY thick hot chocolate. If you prefer a thinner drink, add more milk or water.
